Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will feature an original multiplayer mode called Fox Hunt
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will not just be a graphical remake of one of the most important games in the series. During the Konami Digital Showcase, it was revealed that the title will include a completely original multiplayer mode called Fox Hunt.
This new online mode is not a re-edition of Metal Gear Online, nor does it attempt to be. As Yu Sahara, project director and series veteran, has confirmed, it is a proposal designed from the ground up to respect the essence of Metal Gear, while adapting to the current multiplayer landscape.
What do we know about Fox Hunt?
Fox Hunt will focus on tension, camouflage, and stealth, classic pillars of the franchise. Sahara explains that the aim was to break away from the constant gunfights that dominate many online games and return to what really sets Metal Gear apart: the need to stay hidden, observe, and execute with precision.
“We wanted to create something more than just another shooting game. Fox Hunt is designed to offer an experience that conveys the tension of hiding and hunting the enemy,” says Sahara.
Although no official images of the mode have been shown yet, Konami promises to reveal more details in the weeks leading up to launch.
Why hasn’t Metal Gear Online returned?
Metal Gear Online was a success with its community, particularly during the era of MGS4 and The Phantom Pain. However, Sahara acknowledges that the current multiplayer market has changed so much that a simple relaunch would no longer make sense.
“We appreciate the fans’ affection for MGO, but it was necessary to think of something new, something unique for this generation.”
Confirmed release date
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on 28 August 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Fox Hunt will be included from day one, although Konami has not confirmed whether it will require an additional download or come integrated.
